Oh, well I live in the US and I noticed that CKC dogs are cheaper than AKC by quite a bit.

Yes they are, but steer clear of them if you are looking for a puppy. If someone can't qualify with their dogs to have AKC registration, there is something quite fishy or bad about their breeding operation. AKC doesn't even check to insure that the dogs meet breed standard so I wouldn't intentionally buy a CKC registered puppy. It's just surely giving either a BYB or puppy mill money and making sure those poor parents keep on being breeding machines.
Thanks Jess for the great sig of my kids!

Exactly. And don't get the CKC confused with the Canadian registry, which is also the CKC!!
Oh, ok. Thank for the information! My dad possibly will be getting a dog in the spring. We were thinking a dachshund. We've had two mini dachshunds before. Very hard to potty train though. We aren't particularly looking for registered dogs, as they are too expensive. So we are gonna go to the st. cloud shelter and look for one.

Getting a dog from the shelter is best if you aren't looking to spend the money on a puppy from a responsible breeder who does all breed appropriate health testing and only breeds to better that breed. Buying an unregistered dog in the paper or online or from a CKC (Continental, not Canadian, Kennel Club) breeder, only helps furhter the horrid conditions those dogs live in. Not to mention, shelter dogs need good homes. Good luck with the adoption.
