    Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I like the looks of the long haired maltese better but I know that it can be very time consuming to keep the coat healthy & clean so I understand why people have the puppy cuts done.

I personally don't like their coat kept long much at all.

My grandma has 3 Maltese - all are kept short/medium. Here's a picture of my favorite dog of her's.

Her cut doesn't look too great at all here, my grandpa actually did it that time. Usually myself or my aunt groom her dogs for her.

OMG! What a cute photo! I like that length...short/medium. I think the long would get all snarly & dirty pretty fast.

I like the long hair, but I would not want that long hair if I had one. I would keep it in a puppy cut. The long hair looks so regal and elegant but if I was not showing I would keep it short.

I think the long hair is very elegant, and, when seen at a dog show, I love it. But, for a dog in the house or just running around outside, I think the short cut is cuter.

Sassy had a long hair cut some years back. She was so unhappy outside so we now have puppy cuts for her

I really like the puppy cut, beacuse it is still long enough to make them look fluffy. I think it makes the dogs look so cute.

LONG! Sometimes I don't like the look of the hair in front of the muzzle where it curves and then just stops but I totally understand why people cut them that way, that hair must tangle quickly.

Oh ok. Well, I still like long haired better. I think puppy cuts are pretty ugly unless they are kept properly trimmed and shaped. I really hate the long scraggly tail hair with a short body cut. Sometimes they can be cute. I don't mind them though since a lot of people can provide the perfect home for a maltese and it is the right dog for them, they just don't like the long hair. I certainly wouldn't say, in this situation, that they shouldn't get a maltese if they don't like the hair. Sorry to the dog owners but these first few clips just don't do the dog justice. The last one, medium clip, is adorable. I think its the visibly thin hair that turns me off.
