    What a great thread!

I, too, would like to send a special salute to both of my grandfathers (both have passed on) and both served in WWII. My dad's dad was in Iwo Jima, and mom's dad never said where he was, but has battle scars to show he was somewhere.

Both of them were born in Mexico, came to this country, FOUGHT for this country and had to fight to not be deported once their tour of duty was over!

Long story short, the government granted them both citizenship, and they both lived full, happy and FREE lives!

    GOD BLESS THE USA!!

What a beautiful salute! My grandfather was also in the Navy - he got a purple heart (really wish I knew where it was) for bravery during battle.

My husband is a Navy vet too, was overseas during Desert Storm.

Remember, the freedoms we enjoy today are because of the endeavors of these brave men and women!

A moment of silence and prayer for all of the vets that have served our country so well.

We take our freedom for granted - yet we owe a debt of gratitude to so many that we are free.

Prayers for all of our soldiers who are away from their families - keep them safe - and after their mission is done allow them to return home.

My mom and dad were married Sept. 3, 1917. This picture was taken the next year. My dad, Clay, was Chief Mechanic in the Field Artillery and is on the right in the picture which was taken in "Hocher Germany, 15 Kilos from Coblenz".

Out of curiosity....isn't it a Stat holiday in the States? It is for Canadians and when I checked on my work email, there were some messages from some vendors from the US.

    Freckles, what a wonderful picture.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, champagne in one hand and strawberries in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming WOO HOO - What a Ride!
