Ugh that disgusts me, it really does. I hope that mall closes that shop down when they realize its ILLEGAL to be selling them under four inches at PETS!! Especially in such a small confinement!! I'm sure there has to be SOME RES group you can contact to get more information about getting that shop reported to the local authorities or something. It makes me absolutely SICK to think that others are out there purchasing these turtles and not properly taking care of them!!! Not all are as fortunate as the one you have to have an owner that actually does proper research to care for it the way they should!

I know, it disgusts me too. I had gone into petsmart shortly after she got it and talked to someone there, and I was the 4th person that had come in that day about the hatchlings.

The only thing I don't have is a filter. I know I need one, I'm just kind of debating on the kind of funds and space I'll have for a bigger tank and what kind of filter I can get now. I only have the water filled about 6 inches...

Fill the tank about 3/4 of the way, then gfo to walmart and buy a filter for a 20 - 30 gallon tank. May be $20 or so bucks but its worth it

Or if you just want to wait until you get a larger tank, get a filter for a 60 gallon tank. Rule of thumb is to get a filter for 2 - 3 times the tank size.

That is horrible that anyone would keep any animal in one of those things Before You get any animal you research it to see if it's right for you it cuts down on animals in shelters I feel so sorry for him/her

Its a forum just for turtles. I belong there with my snapping turtle. There is SO much information in the forum & so many people willing to help. You might get lucky & one of the guys might take the sickly little guy off your hands & get his health back up.

If you want that little shop closed, ask for help on that site, they'll know what to do.

I sent some letters to the local media around here, just to let everyone know. Hopefully a few of them will run the story. I talked to a local reptile store, and he said that everyday they throw at least 20 of the babies away, dead.

The mall never responded to any of my 3 letters.

I've tried everything other than taking him to a vet, I believe he's slowly fading away. He sits out of the water all day everyday, and is becoming much less responsive to me.
