he does great on a leash and for the most part is not a whiney dog. I just dont want him to turn into a little brat. And yes, I do see the drama queen coming out in him!

Then when he does this just ignore him and continue whatever you're doing! If you stop when he whines, then he'll know that every time if he whines when you do something he doesn't like that you'll stop. So he just needs to suck it up!

He's very cute! Every time I see a husky puppy pic, I get a brief case of puppy fever, but I get over it when I remember how much work puppies are!

On the subject of drama queen huskies...Earle used to howl and yelp like I was killing him every time I told him to sit. When we lived in the city, I'm sure people thought I beat him several times a day. On walks, especially if there people around, he would carry on at every corner--he had to sit before we could cross the street. He's over 6 now and he still complains about being told what to do, but he's mellowed a bit!

A friend of mine has a 1 year old GSD that is 100lbs and cries like a 6 week old when someone touches his collar. He'll even drop to the ground to try to avoid being touched!! Goofy Dogs!! But that's why we love them!! Right?!?

Wow, he is a beautiful puppy!

On a different note, while Huskies can be drama queens, you don't want to automatically shun the whimper off as nothing. You want him to know that you touching his collar is not a bad thing. Make sure you NEVER drag him by it or grab it while yelling at him - this only promotes negative behavior. Try playing games with him every day just for a few minutes.

1) Ask him to come to you if he isn't already.
2) Show him a treat
3) Gently grab ahold of his collar and say "gotcha"
4) Give him the treat.

This will help show him that collar grabbing is not a bad thing. It will also prevent any possible future accidents. Also, if he is not enjoying you picking him up it could just be he doesn't want you to. BUT it could be you are grabbing too hard or its very uncomfortable. Try scooping under his butt and shoulders. If he still whines, then he is just stubborn.

OMG...what a gorgeous boy you have there. I do hope that you will share more pictures of him. I have a husky also and she is quite the cry baby. She can be very vocal when she doesn't like something and she will also drop flat on the floor and become dead weight. She does not want to be picked up in any way. If I reach out to grab her collar I can see her shrink away but she is much better now. She hates bath time and the first few baths that she had she screamed and cried so loudly that my husband and I thought for sure the police would be knocking on our door...lol. You have got some good advice from the others. Just hang in there and be patient.
