Actually, the Australian Shepherd originated in America. The australian cattle dog (or blue heeler) originated in Australia...as did the Australian Kelpie, Silky Terrier, etc. But sadly, not the australian shepherd.

Ireland: Irish Setter! Beautiful dogs in a show coat. Not very beautiful dogs when they're not brushed out and slobbering on themselves, but hey they're sweethearts.

This cat, the Kohana (or Hawaiian Hairless) originated in Hawaii. I couldn't find any dogs from hawaii though. However, the maltese comes from the island of malta. (Just don't ask me where that is.)
