Sorry for the confusion....Originally I was planning to since I didn't think I'd have much luck finding a hotel in downtown San Francisco that allowed pets, especially one his size no matter what his manners/temperment is.Since I did, I plan on taking him with us the majority of the time.
The only time I could see leaving him is maybe an hour or so for dinner, but I've already checked with the hotel and it's not a problem as long as he's crated and we put a do not disturb sign up for housekeeping. Since this is the end of a 2 week trip I'm guessing I'll have a fairly exhausted pup on my hands by then so an hour in his crate shouldn't be a problem. I've already gotten a copy of his shot records (just in case...), since we'll be going through a few states, and he has a rabies tag on his collar. We don't really have any set plan for while we're in SF but the doggy day care idea sounds good just in case we want to do something for an extended period. I'll do some searches and see if I can find one. He's never been in one, but he's dog and people friendly so I don't think it should be an issue.

*BARKING* Mutt!
Anyway last time I was traveling alone and needed to run into the store. It was hot so I didn't want to leave him in the car so I figured I'd try crating him in the room. I crated him and went outside for about 10 min. Unfortunately/fortunately the hotel had put us in a high traffic area. Within 10 min people had walked by talking, a couple of cars had driven by the window, our neighbor came out closing the door (not quietly), a dog even barked, and not a peep out of him.
I was horrified. Later I ran into the people next door to us and apologized. They said they actually hadn't heard anything out of him until they heard me come back.
Then I remembered, he always knows the sound of mine or my roomates cars at home and starts howling as soon as he hears them, and I'd parked right outside the room..... He's a little.....ok lot strange
