I have a kittie who used to follow affection with swatting. I got some scratches good enough for stories too! She did this during her transition phase from "remote goddess" to "lovable princess." In other words, it was a trust issue for her, and the swatting has gone away now that she knows what to expect from me (daily adoration). Just keep giving Jewel gentle handling, talk to her a lot, and in time (hers, of course ) the paw will come down.
