We did not, but it is not because the breeds we had growing up were not great dogs. Growing up, I had mostly Australian cattle dogs, but I also had a miniature poodle, a beagle, and mixed breeds. My husband mostly had beagles, but also had labs. When we started researching what dog breeds were best for our lifestyle and environment, we eliminated ACDs and beagles because of the level of activity that they require. Bassets were a much better choice for us at this point in our lives.
