Hanz and Fritz

Fritz

Hanz

Hanz and Fritz are Central Asian Ovcharkas and littermates that arrived here last weekend (2/12/05). Their owner has apparently been transferred overseas and of course their breeder has no interest in taking them back.

Their owner apparently allowed Fritz to be food aggressive around Hanz, because Fritz will do his utmost to keep Hanz away from a food dish. Needless to say, they don't get to be together here at feeding time :-)

They are both very nice dogs and very protective of us, even after being here for only a few days. They love having the pasture to run in and started cruising the fence line to establish their perimeter right after arriving here.

Bingo

Bingo was found in a shelter in northern California, where no one had any idea just what she was....she is actually a Central Asian Ovcharka and appears to have the typical Ovcharka attitude: she views any other bitch as a problem and definitely does not like terriers! The very kind lady who pulled her from the shelter almost lost her Jack Russell Terrier to this big girl. Bingo is around 4 years old, and somewhat overweight: we're working to get some weight off her. The good news is that while she was still with this lady in northern California, the coyotes and the lone bear that used to romp through her property moved elsewhere.

Bingo is not working out with sheep as she has a tendency to move too quickly and that startles them. But she is an excellent guard dog.

Ricola

This is Ricola, a very pretty Sharplaninatz who has just come into rescue. There's a good chance that she is Bastian's littermate, and we really think we have finally determined where these dogs originated. There's a breeder in Oklahoma who has one breeding pair listed on her website and yet claims to have puppies throughout the year. Say what????? That means she is keeping her one and only bitch pregnant ALL the time and that her puppies are not remaining with their new buyers. We've had three dogs end up in shelters in Oklahoma and Montana that all look distinctly alike....hmmm.

Ricola is a sweetheart of a girl and becomes protective very quickly once she feels at home. She is approximately 18 months old, spayed and up to date on her shots. She does get along with other dogs as long as they don't challenge her and we're working to see how she does with livestock.

Angel

Angel is in fact just what her name indicates :-) She's a sweetheart of a Sharplaninatz who would love to be a couch potato somewhere. She does love to play and gets along well with the other dogs, but would really prefer human companionship.

Angel is a littermate of Bela's and Cu's and was raised with children, cats, goats and horses. She watches our sheep but seems otherwise uninterested in them. When she plays, she plays hard and she and Tango like to take huge flying leaps at each other, knock one another over and then pounce. When she plays with one of the smaller dos, she's much more restrained.

Angel's breeder is working with us to find her a home, given that she was sent here in spite of a co-ownership agreement with the breeder.
