Face transplant, uh-NO. But if I were dying of something and they had clinical trials, you bet your sweet patootie I would. What would I have to lose??
On 60 Minutes last Sunday they had a segment on people who suffer from Parkinson's Disease who were all involved in a clinical trial for over 3 years and it had dramatic effects on these people and their lives. What they couldn't do before, they did with zest! One guy had some kind of brain surgery where they implanted a device in his head. He was walking, running, it controlled the shaking, it was just amazing.
Well, the drug company stopped the trials (even thought the FDA approved them) all because they're afraid of being sued by the participants. Now all the people that were involved in those trials will revert back to their former problems. That's awful!!! Like the participants said, "We're dying of this disease, so what do we really have to lose?? We've already gained our mobility, somewhat of what's left of a normal life. Why stop now? What purpose would it serve??" All of them even agreed to sign a waiver promising never to sue them should something go wrong.
Drug companies. It's all about the money, never the patient.
