I put Alexis down and she scurried off into the kitchen. I followed behind her.
“What smells so delicious?” I asked. Frieda turned and smiled.
“Dinner. Turkey, potatoes, stuffing, the whole works!” She beamed with that motherly
smile.
“Smells delicious. Where are the kids?” I asked, noticing how quiet the house was.
“Spencer took most of them to the park. Alexis wanted to stay here with me.”
“How long did I sleep?” I asked, a little panicked.
“For a while, honey, but you deserved it. It’s okay.” she just smiled.
“Thank you so much, I did need it!” I said, forcing a smile. I couldn’t believe I had slept
so long.
“Since Simone and Joey are both waking up, I’ll take them and Alexis to the park and
hopefully meet up with Spence.” I grabbed a stroller out of the closet and placed the two crying
babies inside.
“Be back soon Frieda.” I called.
I walked for about ten minutes. The park was about 8 blocks from Frieda’s house.
Simone and Joey had stopped crying and were watching the scenery pass contently. As I
neared the park I saw Spence pushing Jeremy and Sam on the swing.
“Hey Spence. What’s up?” I asked, smiling. He blushed.
“Uh, hi.” he said.
“What’s wrong Spence? You seem really uptight.” I let go of Lexie’s hand and let her
go play. All of a sudden another girl appeared from behind the slide.
“Oh, hi. You must be Kyla?” she said.
I just stood, frozen. Who was this girl?
“And you are?” I asked, a little rudely.
“Kyla, this is my, um, my girlfriend.” he said. I just closed my eyes. I forced a smile and
sat down on the bench.
