What is it that attracts you to some of your favourite breeds?

What is it that attracts you to some of your favourite breeds?....

This is just a random/boredom thread but I thought it might be interesting for those of us who do have a favourite breed.

I'm only going to do my top 4 since these are my most favourites...

Tollers:
-The fact that they're ready and willing to work for you.
-Their coat colour, I'm not sure why but for some reason I love the orange and white coat with the light pigment.
-Their size (not too big, not too small).
-They're not an "I just met you and your my best friend" type of dog, they're very reserved and cautious around strangers for the most part, some aren't but most are.
-Their activity level. I love breeds/dogs with a really high energy level but what I lvoe about Tollers is that they've almost got an activity level of a Border Collie but it's not quite as much.

Dobermans:
-They've got an athletic build.
-A lot of them love to learn and are very willing to please.
-Get a long with anyone and everything but again, are a bit reserved around strangers.
-I like the coat colours they come in (esp. the blues)
-They bark a couple times to warn you that somebody's at the door and as soon as you open it they quit (98% of the time you don't have to tell them to be quiet).
-They aren't a really high maintenance breed.

Dalmatians:
-Their coat pattern of course!
-They're pretty active and outgoing
-They're pretty intelligent
-They've got a nice build
-Nice size (again, not too big and not too small)

Australian Shepherd:
-Their coat colours (especially red merle!)
-Their extremely intelligent
-Perfect coat length
-great size
-eye colours
-ability to do 98% of what you ask

Of course there are many more reasons why I love these 4 breeds but it'd take a very long time to lsit everything. Everything you read about the reasons I typed about each is based on my own experience with the breeds.

Bull Terrier
-I think their gorgeous
-great personalities,act like clowns all the time,lol
-i love how they come in so many different coat colours,but all white is my favourite
-Coat length is nice and short
-their size
Their not hyper all the time
and all around great dog!

This is my favourite FAVOURITE breed,but i do love so many others,and it would take forever to post.

[Malinois]

Malinois -

-Such easy leaners
-Never let anybody unkown pass unless you say it's ok
-One of the most agile and full of strength and stanima
-Their size, color, and love. Size-not to big and not too small, color, beautiful, and comes in almost any. And their love never ends.

Manchester Terrier -
-Easy learners
-Never let anybody in the family leave the house without a couple barks
-So beautiful
-Coat, gleaming black and tan, does not shed that much
-Love, never leaves anybody in the house without a kiss
-Size, not to small, but yet, not to big.

Siberian Husky -
-Quick Learners
-You don't have to walk anywhere!!! lol
-They love everybody and anybody
-They aren't small at all, but not big at all either
- They love kids of every size


So those are just my favorties and some of the reasons I love 'em!!

Lots of the stuff people are mentioning is just relevent to their dog, not the breed its self!

Border Collie:

-extremly smart
-so much variety, you can have several BCs that look nothing alike
-reserved, not the "I love everyone on the planet" types
-very loyal
-extremly versitile
-come in every colour of the rainbow
-the sight of a BC bringing in the sheep is an absolutly beautiful sight

Toller-

-besides the herding and the variety parts they are very similer to BCs.

That may be the case with some people, it wasn't for me. Winston fits my Dobie description perfectly, but so do all the other Dobes I know. Tango's got some things in common with the Toller but she's very BC.

HUSKIES of course...

i love their independence, their goofyness, their voices i love how they howl at sirens passing by....
i love they kind expression, love those blue eyes (and brown too), love the coat (except when shedding LOL)
medium sized, and very good listeners
i love the way they love, such nice dogs, sometimes they are destructive but as they say, having a dog in your life..........

(all in my experience with them, 17 years)

I also love Bull terriers, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Pitbulls, Beaucerons,Danes, and other big dogs because
they look so tough, but really are such a sweet inside.

Also Borzoi, Afghan, Greyhound
thay are so classy, styled body and very agile (spelling)

Also Pomeranian, Chihuahua, Poodle (Std and tha most smaller)
because they are small and think thay are big dogs, and have this cute face

Also.......well i think i just love them all, they all have something to love them for, maybe i missed a lot of breeds but all of them are in my heart, sorry i didn´t put them all.

Well...these are some of my favorite breeds...
these are my own personal opinions of the breeds and not based only on my own dogs...

Jack Russells
-big dog in a small dog body
-athletic
- very intelligent and relatively easy to train
-fearless
-sturdy, tough and bold

Aussies
- loyal family dogs
- herding insticts
- variety of colors
- high energy level
- excell in many activities

Rottweilers
-calm, devoted
- Look big and scary but are really oversized teddy bears
- protective if nessessary
- easy to train
- most I have met are regular class clowns

Retrievers
- Willingness to please
- love for everyone
-Obsessive personalities
- Great family dog
- Very loyal

Tawny Britany Griffons, otterhounds, border terriers, ext.
-that wiry, unkempt look thats oh so cute
-hyper, plucky personality

Komondor, OES
-large and shaggy
-good guard dog and very trustable at the same time
-confident personality

I like all breeds really. I love their different looks and spend tons of time grooming my pups so they look gorgeous and healthy and happy. I love to bring out their features and love watching their gaits. Thats one thing I like about conformation shows, that look of confidence that makes the dog seem to say its the best.

Dalmatian:

-Stubbon but loving
-Fairly easy to train
-They don't shed that much
-They love everybody
-They love to play

So - yes the dali is my favorite breed!

Where'd you hear that? In my experience Dals are one of the worst shedders out there...lol. Maybe it was jsut the ones I met but I'm pretty sure they're all bad shedders...

Tigergrrl just got her first dog, a dalmatian puppy. I'm thinking somebody didn't look before she leapt.
I hope this dal somehow manages to make a good impression on your parents. Make sure you take her to obedience classes, and hopefully they won't mind fur everywhere, brush her often.
