We do it all the time--EXCEPT when it's above 70 degrees or so, or when we can't park so that we can see the car easily from inside the store, or when we'll be gone longer than about 30 minutes. We leave the car locked and the windows down about 5-6 inches, and we've never had a problem. They love to ride in the car and they wait for us very nicely!
