Kai's build isn't very typical of a Sheltie. The vet said his ideal weight would be about 35 pounds. He's about 40. Not obese but definitely could stand to lose a few pounds. I just switched him to the raw diet though. Now that I'm able to know exactly what he eats, I'm hoping he'll lose a few pounds. After he reaches his ideal weight, I want to get him a bit lower to make agility easier on him.

Kaedyn, on the other hand, is chunky for his build. I think his ideal weight would be about 20 pounds (he was at 25 the last time I checked) but I'd also like to get him a smidge lower for agility.

Kai [Sheltie], Kaedyn [Sheltie], Keeva [Malinois], Kwik [Malinois]

Three of the four at home are in fit. The fourth is on the pudgy side. Our fifth is still actily racing, so she is the fittest of the bunch

Well, most mushers, especially sprint racers, tell me I keep my dogs too heavy. Most pet dog owners tell me my dogs are too skinny. Someone actually told me a few days ago that Mac looks anorexic! Mac is a hound cross--built like a greyhound in many ways, designed for speed and boundless engery, both of which he has in spades. He eats more than my 130 pound malamute!!

Preacher needs to loose a few pounds, but he's 12, blind, has low thyroid and really doesn't move much anymore. I know his time is growing short and dinner is one of his great joys. I refuse to limit his food too much. So no diet, but I watch for no more gain either.

My vet told me a couple years ago that Kayleigh needed to drop 5 pounds. She had been starved by her first owner and food is a big issue for Kay. I told him he could come out here and feed her then! She has since dropped that five and bit more with more exercise--she has a bigger pen now and I have a Springer for my bike!

Everyone else is extremely fit. They ran over 1000km last year as a soley recreational dog team. They have to be in shape to do that!

alot of people probably wont admit their dog is overweight..

oscar is... and we know it... he is a 30 lb shih tzu common its not hard to figure haha..

Baby is VERY fit, The vet says she is in better shape then any great dane in my city!! and there are alot (there is a breeder here)..

Tikeya is fit too.. She has lost alot of weight since winter.. She used to be a sausage, now you can feel her ribs and actually see a defined tucked tummy ..

And I'm happy for it . a fit dog = a healthy dog.

Duncan, at last weigh-in, weighed 90lbs. Since he is a mixed breed, there really isn't an "ideal" weight for him....
The vets all tell me he is a healthy weight. He is VERY tall, probably as tall as some of your Great Danes so I feel he should weigh more....but he looks healthy, although a bit thin when wet.... (Like a drowned rat actually.... I think he is a bit embarrassed about that...)
But his mother...now THAT's a different story...I could stand to lose about 20 lbs....I don't overfeed my dog, I overfeed MYSELF!! LOL!!!

Bella and Ripley both weigh just about what they should weigh. Bella can range from 40-44 lbs. and Ripley is pretty much a steady 14 lbs. Bella is more like me in that she rarely turns her nose up at food. It's a good thing she can't help herself to things in the refrigerator like I can. Ripley is a picky eater but eats enough to keep himself in good shape. He was only 11 lbs. when I got him and his ribs were visible, so he is doing well.

I had a sort of simular situation with Tikeya.. After she was spayed (at age 2) she went through a "starving" stage.. She thought she was starved. she would whine for food all the time I would be feeding her on scheduals 1 cup twice a day, and she still acted starved...

So this lead to her gaining ALOT of weight.... and then the next couple years I worked sooo hard on trying to get the extra pounds off of her.. eventually it worked... after changing dog foods about 12 times..
