A pet peeve is one of those little, and usually senseless, things that set us off (annoy us) for no real reason. I will let someone else search for the way this came to be.

A pet peeve might be someone leaving the cap off the toothpaste. Or, leaving just one inch of milk in the container. Or, slamming a door....little irksome things that make all of us unique, and annoying to one another...
