Margarine is not black before being dyed, it's whitish and when first produced was required by law to be sold as is with a dye packet separately so it wouldn't be mistaken for butter. How would you dye something yellow if it was naturally black?
I agree. We actually hydrogenated olive oil (in other words...made margarine) in Organic Chemistry Lab last semester and it was not black - it was whitish and reminded me of lard. YUM!
