Fresh paint and cats do not a happy combination make!
It's not the fumes as much as the curious paws being dipped in everything or fur being brushed over wet paint. Some paints can be harmful if swallowed. If possible, keeping cats away until the paint is dry is best and makes everyone the happiest.
