I think that is a marking that Kara put on the pups to determine who is who. Usually when they are newborn, breeders mark the girls with red or pink nail polish and the boys with blue starting with a right shoulder, left should, right hip, left hip, right front paw, etc... This is important to tell which ones are gaining weight and to keep accurate records on each one. After a couple days different colored ribbons are usually used.Originally posted by lv4dogs

Once each pup is born, it is weighed, given a quick check over, marked and then given to mom!
