Bella also hates the vacuum cleaner! She hides under the bed as soon as I pull it out from the cupboard. I always do one room at the time, and open and close door accordingly, so that she has a chance of retreating to the room I just finished.

But... if you view the problem from a slightly different angle: At least you know that your cat isn't deaf!! I once had a deaf cat, and he just loooved the vacuum cleaner! He used to sit on it as I dragged it around the apartment... He seemed to enjoy the warmth and the vibrations from the motor!
