Ginger hates the car. Almost everything that Lescoop77 says in her post is the same with Ginger. I have to pick her up and put her in the car. She drools all over the place and you never know if she is going to get sick in the first five minutes or if she was going to wait until we would pull into the parking place of wherever we were going. It was awful. I will also say I was given the same advise by the vet, but couldn't/didn't make the time to do it. I was also told by the vet to try dramamine. It did not work at all. And to make matters work, we drive down to Florida every year (what torture for my baby). Last year, two neighbors suggested exactly the same thing. They said get a doggie bed, the kind with sides on it like a snugglie bed, maybe she would feel more secure. One of the ladies bought an old bed over, and we put it in the backseat for the trip to Florida. It worked!!! She still isn't crazy about the car, and I have to pick her up to put her in. But we have driven down to Florida and back on two seperate occasions and she did not throw up onceI leave it in the backseat of my car all the time. So if we decide at the last minute to take a trip to the park, it is there. The cover comes off for easy washing. I also have her in a harness that is attached to the seatbelt, for her safety. Oh yeah, it was a great idea.
It may work for you.
