I know that footboards *can* be a pain when making a bed ... as our bed has one too. HOWEVER, as an *interior designer wannabe* I would have to vote FOR the footboard. It adds detail, height and style to the room. KEEP IT!

Also, LOVE the dresser, instead of painting it, can I have it!!!??? Yep, move it into your room, who needs guests anyway?
