My dog Kelly ( she passed away October last year) used to do a similar thing. Whenever I got home, or if we had visitors, she always brought a toy to the door. If she couldn't find a toy then she just took whatever she came across first.

One time, when she was still my sisters dog, she greeted some people with a pair of dirty knickers in her mouth. Lol. Quite an embarrassing moment.
