Actually, you can't really be "born into it"...it is one's individual decision... for example, just b/c my parents are Christian's doesn't mean that I will be, or am...of course, Christian parents raise their kids in the Christian religion, but it is up to each individual if you are going to believen in Christ, and live your life for Him.
Since we don't take an oath like your religion...we have something called testimonies that describe when we got saved...and it just an explanation of when you got saved...your testimony. You wouldn't get baptized if you weren't first saved ( came to the realization that you wanted to follow God and believe in Him in your heart), so when you do get baptized, it is a public statement of your faith to the congregation...but like i said, it is not neccessary that a Christian gets baptized in order to gain salvation...if we "had" to get baptized then that would be considered works, and we don't have to "work" for our salvation...we just have to be sinners, who want to devote our lives to living for Christ and following his teaching...on our own free will...out of love...and naturally try to be as Christ-like as possible...although, no one is perfect or sinless...there is a saying..." Not perfect, just forgiven"
Hope that helps you to understand better
