I don't know what happened re the kids. I was so busy and stressed w/Peeka's care that I didn't even pursue it. The laws are somewhat tougher now but back then probably nothing would have come of it anyhow, especially in that rural area. Many people feel that all animals but especially cats are disposable. My vet at that time who has since retired told me that even some vets today believe that cats don't feel much pain so they don't give them painkillers, etc. after surgery. Scary.
