Take a deep breath friend and give your girl a hug. She was just frightened. A lot of dogs become protective when someone reaches for them from behind, pets their hindquarters/ I think you're right though. If you're fearful of someone approaching her inappropriately, especially a child, you guys might do better staying away from Petco {{{HUGS}}} Sandra
