Richard, you have one GORGEOUS white cat!! Does he get soot on him from the fireplace?? Maybe you could build a cardboard fireplace and put in some cellophane of orange and yellow with a flickering light behind it...and then run a space heater for your kitty at home. Think this would make him happy??
He does look into the firebox when I clean it up...he never has had a problem with soot...

He does sleep in front of the heater but he loves the fireplace and the crackling noises. He becomes hypnotized by the sounds and stares..

The first place he swings by is the fireplace....he always checks it out.
