I would suggest using a shedding blade as a brush. Here are some threads to let you know what I'm talking about.

I think these things get out a lot more hair than any other brush I've ever tried. We do have less hair in the house now that I've started using one of these on Tubby on a regular basis. Try it, they're not expensive and it might just solve your problems.
