When I had Ally fixed the vet said 95% of cats don't pull at their stitches - of course Ally happened to be one of the other 5%!

She came home the same evening of her op - scooted up onto a very high cupboard and SULKED! By the following morning (when I had found a ladder and got her down) she had removed one stitch already. The vet here was in surgery, so I phoned my vet in South Africa who gave me the following tip:

Take an ear bud and some Vicks (you know - the vapor rub) - rub the vicks AROUND the stitches - NOT on them. This is APPARENTLY supposed to keep them from licking as they don't like the smell/taste.

Ally seemed to stop for the first day or two, but my the third day she only had one stitch left, and had grown quite used to the taste of the Vicks!

Luckily by then the wound had healed enough to stay closed, so all ended well.

BTW one of my dogs in South Africa had to wear a "bucket" after an argument with a car (the car won). He refused to eat with it on, so he ended up lying on his back in the lounge, watching cartoons upside-down, whilst being fed dog-food with a plastic spoon! lol - not a sight easily forgotten - unfortunately this happened before I bought my digital camera!
