GREY GIRL - the sweetest grey cat ever

When we moved into our house, we had 10 cats already- but almost
immediately, a small grey female cat showed up outside, very friendly,
anxious for food but not interested in coming inside (except in
emergencies, like thunderstorms, fireworks, very cold days). We asked
around and put up posters- nothing; I guess she was dumped or someone
moved out and left her, she was definitely not the least bit feral - She
lived outside for 3-4 years, only coming in when she really wanted to.
She was neutered, about 3-4 years old, and 100% sweet and friendly- she
loved to get in laps and head-butt us gently and purr. Occasionally in
the early years, she'd bring us a gift- a decapitated bird, a mole, a
field mouse- to show her gratitude. After 3-4 years, she decided maybe
outside wasn't so hot and she came inside full-time. It was totally
seamless- she had no problems with other cats, dogs, or anything (except
thunderstorms and fireworks). I honestly don't think she ever even hissed
at anyone or anything- just pure love in a very soft grey coat with a
wide face and beautiful green eyes. She still loved to head-bonk us
whenever she could.

Last year she started to show her age (by then she was 17-18 at least) -
she tested as hyperthyroid so she started on two felimazole a day, but
she never complained- she joined the " breakfast club", a dozen or so
cats who insisted I be up at 7am and dole out a couple cans of Fancy
Feast, and loved every minute of it. But in the last few weeks she really
started to slow down more, losing some weight and sleeping more- but she
was still the same sweet Grey Girl to us- on Sunday, she seemed to be
shutting down, without being in any discomfort, so we made sure she was
comfortable on soft blankets and got small doses of food when she wanted
them- and on Sunday evening, very quietly and peacefully, our sweet Grey
breathed her last.

It's hard to lose a sweet friend who's been such a wonderful part of our
lives for 16 years- her absence is felt every time one less dish of food
needs preparing, every time there's no soft grey face purring at you and
sitting up to bonk you in the forehead with hers. Little Grey was nothing
but love, ever- we miss her more than we can tell. But already, another
grey cat, Cinder, has suddenly started to head-bonk me instead of just
smiling or nuzzling- so her wonderful influence is still here.

Play hard and enjoy a healthy, pill-free life at the Bridge, sweet
GreyGirl- we miss you - send purrs if you can- we'll see you again
someday- THANK YOU for choosing us and for everything, every purr and
head-bonk--we'll never forget you--
