I think it's funny, and I do this at the clinic too, that I typically recognize the pets before I recognize the people. Welcome back! I fade in and out over the years myself.

My sister *really* wants a hedgehog, and I think they're adorable, but I'm at my limit for caged pets, well... pets in general hehe.
