Why do we only celebrate Mom and Dad for only one day a year, isn't that a 24/7/365 thing?

This brings to mind my husband. He's not big on celebrating anniversaries - says it's like being good only one day/year. We should "celebrate" each other everyday - or there might come a time when there are no anniversaries.

What good is it to honor our parents just one day each year - how do we treat them on the other 364?
