My older brother ended up with a surprise litter of kitten once because although he had an appointment for his kitten to get spayed already marked on the calendar, my nephew who was about four at the time decided "Midnight wants out" and let her go outside at just the wrong time! All her kittens got good homes, and the nephew got a stern lecture about not letting kitty out!
