Hi there - Bless you for picking Squints and for giving him the care who needed when he wasn't well this year. My cat Shadow had that problem also and I have to admit I had to do a lot of research on my own to figure out how to avoid this problem and found out it was all about food and litter. Once I had put Shadow on a good canned food (very little dry from now on) and I never use clumping litter with sodium bentonite (I hadn't anyway) - he has not had this problem for 4 years now. I went through two vets and I have to say that I was happy for their assistance but when it comes to food and litter they really don't seem to have our pets best interests at heart - at least not in Canada where I live. The food they sell have horrible ingredients (by-products mostly - meaning the stuff that should be in the garbage because it's not safe for humans to eat - well to me then I wouldn't feed it to my beloved kitties either!). I hope your Squints never has to face this problem (or you) again.
