The shelters around here all have different kill rates. There is one where they only have about 10 days to be up for adoption and then they are put down. Several animals there don't even make it to the adoption area for reasons such as shyness. I'm on rescue lists and get my email flooded daily with pleas for help on saving a life from that shelter. There are other shelters that will keep them for longer but in order to keep certain ones longer, they have to kill others. The shelters who don't kill unfortunately have selective intake. They have to try to get pretty adoptable animals in order to get them out fast so they can rescue more. Its just a sad, sad thing.
