OMG, that could be a clue into what her mix is! The only breed on the top of my head is the Beauceron, but i know there are others out there with double back dew...

They're bred like that on purpose due to their working nature. It actually helps them climb and stuff. Due to that being a trait bread on purpose they're more sturdy than most other dew claws of other breeds. (Her being a mix though i don't know. The vet would have to take an x-ray to look at the bone structure. I say if it's solid enough leave well enough alone. If it just looks like that average dew claw though i could see the owner's choice being valid. That would have to be difficult to trim thus leading to other problems.)
