Many of you don't know that I have a poodle mix in Italy who lives with my mom.
Her name is Shelly and she is my "heart" dog.
When I got married and moved back to the States I couldn't take her with me because the vets said she wasn't healthy enough for the transatlantic trip.
We decided it was best to leave her with my mother as heartbreaking as it was.
Shelly was born in my home on May 5th 1991 from our poodle DeeDee.
(I was a very young teen then).
As soon as she came out, I knew she was the one I'd keep.
The other pups (2) went to relatives and have since passed on from age.
Shelly grew up with me and kept me sane through those difficult teen years.
She was and is my best friend and I will never forget her.
She turns 16 today and even if I am not with her (because we live so many miles away) I think of her every day and especially today.
I love you Shelly and hope to see you again soon.
I took these pictures on my last trip to Italy a year and a half ago.
Hopefully she'll still be with us in November, when I plan to visit again.
