As much as I hate to see animals suffer, right now they don't know what is causing the deaths. They need to find this out, so they can eliminate the problem and spare more animals in the future from suffering.

If there was some other way to test, and if dogs and cats were not put to sleep by the thousands each month for no other reason than a lack of homes and because of shelter overcrowding, I might feel differently, but at least these animals' death lead to the recall and may have spared the lives of countless other loved pets. No, animals shouldn't suffer needlessly, and should be spared pian whenever possible, but there is a lot of unknowns left in our understanding of the world, and so sometimes animals need to be tested to help future an current pets.

I have moved this to The Dog House, because it is, I agree, upsetting.
