We had to have our chihuahua puppy Sara put to sleep last year the day before Christmas Eve. She had parvo.. We were staying with Robin's family in Tennessee and she hadn't shown any signs of being ill until that evening when we had to bring her to the emergency vet.
She only weighed 1.3 lbs and was 3 months old. The vet tested her to see what was wrong and it came back positive for parvo. He said as small as she was, it was very unlikely that she would even survive the treatment for it.

So, instead of us putting her through all of that, we let her go.. That was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. She was our baby and Deebo loved her so much.. We were really lucky that Deebo didn't get sick too.
I was planning on holding her until she fell asleep, but I just couldn't.. I held her at first, but couldn't stop crying and shaking so I finally called the nurse to come in there and get her.. She said she just sang to Sara, rocked her and held her until she took her final breath.

I've never mentioned Sara before now, I don't think. It's too hard to talk about her.

She was such a beautiful little girl.
