All of my dogs have been tormented by the kids that surround me. Our yard is completely fenced, some with cedar, but much with cedar posts with wire. The high school kids would throw rocks at them on their way to school and tell the dogs to "shut up" if they barked. Since Star was a puppy, they have taunted her, mock barking, "chasing her" up and down the road, throwing things at her and Cody, etc. Now, she has a real hesitation when first approached by kids. After a few minutes of introduction she's fine, but her first reaction is defensive! Kids can be great, but they can also be cruel, perhaps unknowingly, to animals and often to each other
