As for your betta dieing, I am worried of that too, and I know that when he does (not for a VERY long time hopefully) I will of course be sad. You know that if you need any help, us PT'ers will be here to give you advise if your betta would start to look as if he is feeling ill. I hope that you get one though! They are so much fun!
