The CKC does not recognize the border collie as it is bred for it's brain & ability rather than for a uniform appearance. CKC (like AKC) is all about physical standardization. This is why most breeds look so much alike while the BC can have so many shapes and forms. Once registered with the CKC or AKC, they have to set what a BC is supposed to look like, right down to oh so important things like how long its nose is in proportion to how wide its head is. To say nothing of height, coat length, colour and ear conformation. Because of course all these things are just soooooo important.

It was thanks to the tremendous effort by the Canadian Border Collie Association that this did not happen. This is why we don't have mass production of barbie collies in Canada (with a some unfortunate exceptions...who register their dogs in the US to get around this). It is also a major reason we don't have as many BCs per capita showing up in shelters.
