Well I've never heard that catnip is bad for cats and I've given mine the dried version and Sunny and Storm love to not only roll in it but they also eat it. Pet stores also sell the catnip plants which cats can also eat. I don't think that it's addictive either and I don't think that they can overdose on it so I wouldn't worry too much.
