Aw Jess I am going to have to strongly disagree with you.

dab_20 is exactly right -- dogs are bred for specific things, but not all BCs herd, not all beagles hunt, etc. And not all pits fight.

If anything, Pitbulls weren't just bred for fighting but were also bred to be guard dogs.

Look at most toy breeds!! Those don't "serve a purpose" and yet are still loved. Toy breeds were mainly bred for the sole purpose of being lap dogs and for being coddled and pampered and babied.

Pits are only agressive if they are TRAINED to act on their aggression and not trained to deal with their aggression in a more constructive manner. Pits actually make wonderful family pets. But like with ANY breed of dog, no child should be left alone with any animal. Any animal or breed of dog can attack if provoked. Pits may have a "shorter fuse" than other breeds, but so do many popular breeds such as the Rott and even the oh-so-popular German Shepherd!

I don't know what I'm getting at but I think you get my point.

EDIT: But if I just misunderstood you please let me know
