ok. I don't have the same as you, but first of all, the layers box thing is important because it shows you the layers and you can drag them up and down. Also, click and hold on the lasso tool, and a magnetic lasso should show. You can use that to cut out a picture and then hold down shift and select with the lasso to add to the selected area, and alt to take away.
