I've heard & read that too, I'm not sure how true it is but common sense would say that it has to be annoying to the ferret. Would you like a ringing bell near your ears all the time? And common sense would say that after some time it may cause some damage to the ears.

I don't think it has THAT much of an impact on the ferret. I only use the harnesses on my ferrets & thats only if they go outside. I have bells on my harnesses.
