I think you should wait and see what happens when
you actually go down to their home and feel it out.
If the dog is well cared for, loved and it's just
a problem of training and they are commited
to do what ever is needed to keep their beloved
pet as a family member than I would work
with them.
If not, than take the pup back and find him a home
that he deserves with lots of love.
