Eddie got his skin grafts Friday and they took more skin from his lower legs and put it on his neck. This is an extreemly critical time now and for the last 2 days, we have hardly been able to see him, resorting to peeks of him through his ICU window. He is extreemly prone to infections and ANYTHING could disturb and distroy his new skin grafts so he is being kept at -3 sedation status, meaning he is completely out of it now. The skin from his leg went on his neck and some of the grafts they grew somewhere else was put on his chest and arms, these are the ones they say will only have a 50 to 60% sucess rate. They have his arms extened up in the air and one of his legs up and he is just suspended like that for a least a week and will be kept asleep.

This is the hardest for Regina and I, both almost left in tears yesterday after only being able to look at him through the window briefly. If this is what we have to do, then we WILL do it to keep him as safe as we can from anything we might carry into him. I would imagine that as soon as this part is well enough, they will do another and another so we are wondering just how long it will be until we get Eddie back and see those brown eyes and his smile..
We were not warned or prepared for this part so it is hitting us pretty hard right now...

BUT... we have decided that we will NOT let this get us down! We will use this time to get away from the hospital more and do things for ourselves. Virginia Beach is only 10 miles away and since I have never been, we are going to go one day and eat on the boardwalk there and do other things as the days present themselves weatherwise and boardom wise.

Extra prayers are needed for Eddie right now to help ward off infections and keep the grafts safe and healthy!!
