Sadie rolls in stuff too - dead stuff, some kind of animal feces, and completely unidentifiable stuff. I've learned to recognize the look on her face right before she takes the dive so I am able to prevent it most of the time.

Theories I've heard are: to hide her own smell I guess to hunt better and/or to cover herself with the smell of her discovery so she can bring it back to the pack and "tell" them what she found.

I hate the smells she finds but the happiness it brings her keeps me from getting mad. Sadie gets this look of pride and accomplishment on days she gets dirtiest. She'll sit in the back seat of the car tall and alert, hair wet and grimy with stink, sticking straight out. I just cover my back seat in vinyl and let her enjoy the ride, then immediately lead her to the tub when we get home . Her posture for the tub - tail between legs, head hung low .
