I have 3 golden retrievers. If I were a better groomer, I might not have the horrible shedding problem I have, but I don't groom them nearly as often as other golden owners do, even simple brushing. It's hard with 4 dogs.
Don't let the grooming part be intimidating. You will love your dog regardless. You just want to avoid matting and to do that, some kind of regular brushing will help.
